Hi! I’m Christy Marie. Thanks for stopping by. I was born and raised in New Jersey, but have been living in Vermont since 2004. Besides quilting, I like to read, travel with a rubber duck, and play video/computer games.

  • I has a compulsion to buy dying house plants, give them names, and nurse them back to health. To date, only one has not survived. (I blamed the flowerpot and got rid of it.)
  • I am jealous of people whose initials spell a word.
  • I think of myself as an acquired taste.

When I was a teenager, I saw a really cool fairy fabric at Rag Shop. (I was a bit obsessed with fairies.) I randomly decided that I needed to make a quilt with it. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and YouTube hadn’t been invented yet. I gave up pretty quickly, but held on to the fabric. (I’m a bit of a packrat about fabric.)

In 2010, I was living in Vermont and feeling a bit bored. I remembered the fairy fabric and the long-abandoned quilt. I decided I’d try again. I changed my design to something simpler and got to work.

It didn’t turn out that great. Even *with* YouTube, I still didn’t exactly know what I was doing. In fact, it still hasn’t been quilted!

But I decided I kind of liked making it. I knew all I needed was practice and I’d probably get a lot better. So I kept at it and my skills have improved tremendously. When I start feeling like I’m bad at this, I look at that first top and remember how far I’ve come.

An anagram of Christy Marie is A Mythic Riser. That makes me think of phoenixes, which I think are pretty cool. The “a” was ultimately left off because “Mythic Riser Quilts” just sounds better.

I would love to design a permanent logo with a phoenix in it. I have an idea in my head, but drawing is not one of my strong skills.
